The core of the presentation will be three greek artists, alphabetically Vasilis Papageorgiou, Yorgos Stamkopoulos and Valinia Svoronou. The resemblance of landscapes which can be found within the paintings and the sculptures presented is of great importance. Those landscapes can be seen as sites of memory which embody experiences and emotions from the past. When gazing at the works an experience of place and movement in an emotional landscape of the past is being created.

Στον απόηχο πολλαπλών καταστροφικών γεγονότων και τροποποιήσεων στο υλικό μίας λεπίδας μίας ανεμογεννήτριας, αναπτύσσεται μια αφήγηση που αποκλίνει από τις παραδοσιακές έννοιες της θνητότητας. Μέσα σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η Ιλεάνα Αρναούτου και η Ισμήνη Κινγκ φαντάζονται μια σειρά από αντικείμενα και χωρικά σενάρια που προτείνουν εναλλακτικές χειρονομίες μνημόνευσης. Αυτοί οι φανταστικοί χώροι υλοποιούνται ως δυστοπικά σπίτια, γίνονται προσωρινά οικεία μέσα από την ενσωμάτωση χειρονομιών και αντικειμένων. Λουλούδια, φυλαχτά, προσωπικά αντικείμενα, αναμνηστικά, αντικείμενα πίστης και τελετουργικά της καθημερινότητας  συγχωνεύονται για να δημιουργήσουν ένα σύνθετο ιστό. Οπτικοποιώντας τα κομμάτια της ανεμογεννήτριας ως ένα αποδομημένο μπουκέτο, όπου κάθε αντικείμενο μεταμορφώνεται σε μία ξεχωριστή ανθοδέσμη αναμνήσεων. Υβριδικά συστήματα υποστήριξης εμφανίζονται, δημιουργώντας μια αγκαλιά που ανακατασκευάζει με ευαίσθητο τρόπο τα απομεινάρια. Σε αυτούς τους μεταβατικούς χώρους, μια ακαμπτή αγκαλιά και μια ψυχρή οικειότητα συνυπάρχουν, δημιουργώντας μια αντίθεση σε σχέση με το άυλο συναίσθημα της μνήμης. Η έκθεση θα αναπτυχθεί ως συνέχεια της παρουσίασης στο πλαίσιο της σειράς εκθέσεων One Work Show Series στην Callirrhoë τον περασμένο Οκτώβριο. Θα είναι μια συνεργατική προσπάθεια μεταξύ του καλλιτεχνικού δίδυμου και των εκθεσιακών χώρων, Alkinois και Callirrhoë.

Piece of cake: something easily accomplished like swallowing a slice of sweet dessert, an expression originated in the Royal Air Force in the late 1930s for an easy mission. What a cynical wording to describe the present, as a breeze that everyone can cope with. “Let them eat cake” as the most famous quote attributed to Marie-Antoinette - the queen of France during the French Revolution - was her response upon being told that her starving peasant subjects had no bread. True or false, an oral history that someone probably just repeated something that he/she/they overheard in order to reinforce the upcoming revolution. A phrase that remained through the years as a popular saying to express the disconnection within the society. Α cake as an allegory of society. A whole that could be cutted in pieces but in order to „function“ as it is supposed to needs to be complete. But what if the individual pieces face the so-called derealization, where you feel detached from your surroundings? In an attempt to bridge this feeling of collective loneliness is presented a selection of artists that answer the very personal question of how they are seeing the world. Artworks that ostensibly could be difficult to encode and an exhibition text that consists of the answers of the artists are welcoming you to be part of this cake.

Piece of cake: κάτι που επιτυγχάνεται εύκολα όπως το να καταπιείς ένα κομμάτι γλυκού, μια έκφραση που προήλθε από τη Βασιλική Αεροπορία στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1930 για να χαρακτηρίσει μια εύκολη αποστολή. Τι κυνική διατύπωση να περιγράψεις το παρόν, σαν κάτι που όλοι μπορούν να ανταπεξέλθουν. «Αφήστε τους να φάνε κέικ», όπως το πιο διάσημο απόφθεγμα που αποδίδεται στη Μαρία-Αντουανέτα – τη βασίλισσα της Γαλλίας κατά τη Γαλλική Επανάσταση – που ήταν η απάντησή της όταν της είπαν ότι οι πεινασμένοι αγρότες της δεν είχαν ψωμί. Σωστό ή λάθος, μια προφορική ιστορία που κάποιος πιθανότατα απλώς επανέλαβε κάτι που κρυφάκουσε για να ενισχύσει την επερχόμενη επανάσταση. Μια φράση που έμεινε στο πέρασμα των χρόνων ως λαϊκή ρήση για να εκφράσει την αποσύνδεση μέσα στην κοινωνία. Ένα κέικ ως αλληγορία της κοινωνίας. Ένα σύνολο που θα μπορούσε να κοπεί σε κομμάτια αλλά για να «λειτουργήσει» σωστά πρέπει να είναι ολοκληρωμένο. Τι γίνεται όμως αν τα μεμονωμένα κομμάτια αντιμετωπίζουν τη λεγόμενη αποπραγματοποίηση, όπου νιώθουν αποκομμένα από το περιβάλλον τους; Σε μια προσπάθεια να γεφυρωθεί αυτό το αίσθημα συλλογικής μοναξιάς παρουσιάζεται μια επιλογή καλλιτεχνών που απαντούν στο πολύ προσωπικό ερώτημα του πώς βλέπουν τον κόσμο. Έργα τέχνης που φαινομενικά θα μπορούσε να είναι δύσκολο να αποκωδικοποιηθούν και ένα εκθεσιακό κείμενο που αποτελείται από τις απαντήσεις των καλλιτεχνών σας καλωσορίζουν να γίνετε μέρος αυτού του κέικ.

 Selma Köran x callirrhoë

Selma Köran’s works explore the mythological realm of narration and examine the state of humanity according to it. Putting herself in the shoes of a dilletante archeologist, she dissects the body of western narrative in order to pastiche and mock the traditional anticipation of archetypological roles within our society. By deconstructing and re-staging these narratives our perspective on the normative and hierarchical is called into question. Her work understands itself as a repairwork in the past. She produces imagery emanating from the surrealistic fever dream of an infant contrasted by violent content, a derivative from our patriarchal hierarchy that she aims to dismantle in its origins by allowing imagination to infiltrate reality.
